Have you ever had a pattern in your mind and then tried for days and weeks to find a pattern to create what your mind had envisioned?! I have, and right when I was about to give up and try to to draft myself (caution: this would not have ended well!!) Megan Thorman with Made for Mermaids, contacted me to test Daphne and Mama Daphne for her!
This pattern is seriously a dream, maybe not everyone's dream but mine nonetheless, come TRUE!!
This lovely pattern offers so many options. It includes the off the shoulder version (the one I was searching for), flutter sleeve option, tie straps or fixed straps for the bodice. You have infinite options in making the top, dress, or maxi dress version. ADDED Bonus!! With the help of Lillian, you can mash these two beauties together for an amazing off the shoulder romper!!
I used the Art Gallery 'Gentle Mantle in Land' woven that I had ordered not knowing what I would sew with, until Daphne fell into my lap! I added some fringe trim which was the cherry on the sundae to complete my Daphne.
Mama Daphne made me WANT to sew for myself. I've had moments where I had brief conversations with myself about sewing more items for my closet, but I never had a pattern that broke my non mama sewing streak, until this one!
This pattern has so many features its almost overwhelming! How do you choose from all the options!?
The top version features ALL sleeve options; long, short, 3/4, flutter, full ruffle, elastic on the ends or no elastic. This can be dressed up or dressed down. The fabrics you can use to make this dreamy mama top are endless!! (chiffon, poly chiffon, voile, lawn, rayon challis, peach skin, poly blends, chambray, piqué, rayon spandex, stretch chiffon, jersey knit, cotton lycra, etc.)
I used a 4 way stretch from Walmart for $1/yard!! I bought the rest of the bolt and have had it in my fabric stash untouched, uncut, forgotten about... and then Mama Daphne happened!
The Mama Daphne dress version offers mini, knee length, maxi, and puddle maxi versions! Use the same options for the sleeves and you have a pattern that can fill your closet with beach ready, date ready, lazy mama day but all I need is one dress to make my feel pretty ready dresses!
I did the maxi version and used a chambray for the bodice and skirt and then topped it with a stretch lace for the full ruffle. The fit is amazing!! I will be most definitely be adding more to my closet!
You will not regret adding these lovely patterns to your stash. I am so glad I was able to share my love for Daphne and Mama Daphne with you!!
